Energy Saving Tools

These Insulation and Energy Saving Design Tools (Calculators) were developed to provide assistance for common calculations used in the design and analysis of mechanical insulation systems.

These calculators are useful for the beginner or experienced professionals in the construction, design, specification, maintenance, management, and budgeting fields. They were developed for MIDG by the Mechanical Insulation Education and Awareness Program, part of efforts by the DOE-ITP's Save Energy Now initiative to improve the energy efficiency of the U.S. industrial and commercial sectors. Project Performance Corporation and the National Insulation Association, in conjunction with its alliance with the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, are working together to design, implement, and execute the Mechanical Insulation Education and Awareness Program. Please contact one of our Energy Appraisers for further help

For more in-depth information about the calculators, read the NIA News article about them.

Energy saving light bulbAn insulation energy appraisal gives an assessment of your current insulation and it efficiency.

If a system is efficient it burns less fuel, saves money and puts less emissions into the air by virtue of it requiring less from the plant that produces it in the first place. And the bottom line is that it save a tremendous amount of money. Enough to pay itself back and move forward within 6 months. If a plant had an insulation project as big as their monthly energy bills, contractors from all over the United States would flood to that site for work. While 6 months is the average time for pay back, in the colder (mountain) states that payback period can be much less. This is money that is available from within the plant itself. It is not additional money that needs to come from profits this is money that can be saved from overhead.

For example, let's say you have a home heating bill of $250 and we leave the front door and windows open. A smart person will cut that bill in more than half simply by closing them up. Now imagine this on a larger scale for your factory or plant. What would you do if your plant cut it's energy bill in half?

What a tremendous cost savings to be able to use those same overhead dollars on something else. $250,000 invested from money that was already being used in the overhead. This is not a pie in the sky number. We have seen this very example.

Once you have had one system done and you see the savings, it can easily have a ripple effect throughout your organization and facilities.
